What paint do you use on ceilings?

We use trade-grade ceiling white, typically Dulux Trade Supermatt or equivalent. The formulation matters. A good ceiling paint has the right viscosity to minimise splatter and produce a flat, even finish under raking light. We do not use standard emulsion on ceilings.

Can you paint over Artex without removing it?

Yes, in most cases. Artex in good condition can be painted with the right roller pile to get into the texture. Where Artex is cracking or in poor condition, overskimming before painting produces a better result. We advise on the options at the site visit.

Is Artex dangerous to paint over?

Artex installed before 1985 may contain asbestos fibres. Painting over intact Artex is generally safe. The risk arises from sanding or disturbing it. We do not sand textured ceilings without a material test first. We can advise on arranging a test if needed.

How do you deal with a water-stained ceiling?

We apply a shellac-based or specialist stain-blocking primer to the stained area first. This seals the stain so it does not bleed through the finish coat. Where damp is still active, we advise on addressing the water source before painting.

Can you restore original cornicing that has been clogged with paint?

We can clean up paint build-up at cornice junctions and apply a careful finish that restores clean lines. Deep restoration of clogged decorative mouldings is specialist work. We assess and advise honestly at the site visit.

How long does a ceiling take to paint?

A standard-height room ceiling takes half a day to a full day, including preparation and two coats. A high ceiling with cornicing and a ceiling rose on a Grantham or Gainsborough period property may take one and a half to two days.

Do you paint ceilings as a standalone job or only as part of a full room repaint?
