Conservatory Painting Services
We cover UPVC, aluminium, and timber conservatory frameworks across Lincoln and the surrounding villages.
UPVC Conservatory Frameworks
White UPVC conservatories are the most common type on properties built in the 1990s and 2000s. The frame profiles yellow with UV exposure and stain from leaf and debris contact.
Painting a UPVC conservatory framework uses an adhesion primer and spray topcoat system. Profiles are cleaned, degreased, and lightly abraded before primer and two spray coats of durable exterior finish are applied.
Lincoln Decorators carry out conservatory resprays across North Hykeham, Bracebridge Heath, and the wider Lincoln area. Colours available include Anthracite Grey (RAL 7016), Slate Grey (RAL 7015), and Cream White (RAL 9001).
Aluminium Conservatory Frames
Older conservatories, typically those built before the mid-1990s, are more likely to be aluminium framed. Aluminium does not yellow the way UPVC does, but it does oxidise and the original factory powder coat can chalk or flake.
Aluminium requires an etch primer that bonds to the metal surface before the topcoat. We assess the existing powder coat condition at the quoting visit. Where it is flaking significantly, additional preparation is required.
Timber Conservatory Frames
Victorian lean-to conservatories and Edwardian-style glass extensions with timber frames require a different approach. Timber conservatory frames expand and contract with seasonal moisture changes and need a flexible exterior wood paint or breathable wood stain.
We prepare timber frames by sanding back loose paint, treating bare timber with exterior wood primer, and applying the topcoat in two coats. On period cottages in Washingborough, Canwick, and Branston, colour matching is often part of the brief.
Dwarf Walls and Surrounding Brickwork
Most conservatories sit on a dwarf wall — a knee-height brick or block plinth under the main glazed sections. Where the main house has been repainted, the dwarf wall usually needs attention at the same time.
Painting both together gives the conservatory a consistent finish. Lincoln Decorators include dwarf wall painting in the quote when it is part of the project scope. We coordinate colours before we start.

Masking, Primer, and Finish
The difference between a clean conservatory respray and overspray on the glass is preparation and masking.

Thorough Masking Before Spraying
A conservatory has large glazed areas: roof panels, side panels, and multiple opening sections. All of it must be covered before the spray equipment comes out.
This masking is time-consuming. It is what makes the difference between a clean professional result and one with overspray on the glass. We do not cut corners on masking regardless of job size.
Colour Changes and Colour Matching
Virtually any RAL or BS colour is available for a conservatory respray. The most popular current choices are Anthracite Grey (RAL 7016), Slate Grey (RAL 7015), and Cream White (RAL 9001).
Replacing standard white with something that works better alongside modern grey window frames or brick exteriors is one of the most common requests we get across North Hykeham and Bracebridge Heath.
Combining with Window Frame Painting
Doing the conservatory and windows together on the same visit saves setup and masking time. If your windows are already a coloured frame and only the conservatory is still white, we can work on the conservatory separately.
For window frame painting, see our window frame painting service. For a complete exterior project, see our exterior painting options.
How Long the Finish Lasts
A properly prepared conservatory respray should hold its finish for eight to twelve years under normal conditions. The adhesion primer is the key — it’s what bonds the topcoat to the UPVC surface.
Without the correct primer system, the finish peels within a season regardless of topcoat quality. All our conservatory work uses the correct primer system on every job.
Here’s How It Works
1. Assessment
We check the framework material (UPVC, aluminium, or timber), existing surface condition, glazing to mask, and any additional items such as dwarf walls before quoting.
2. Cleaning and Degreasing
All frame profiles are cleaned and degreased thoroughly. Any chalking, oxidation, or surface contamination is removed.
3. Light Abrading
UPVC profiles are lightly abraded to give the adhesion primer a key. Aluminium receives an etch primer treatment.
4. Masking
All glazed sections, roof panels, and adjacent surfaces are masked before any spray application.
5. Primer
UPVC adhesion primer applied to all profiles. Allowed to cure fully before topcoat.
6. Topcoat
Two spray coats applied for a consistent factory-like finish. Edges and reveals checked on completion.

Conservatory Painting Costs in Lincoln
Prices below are estimates only. Every property is different. Call 01522 457080 for a fixed quote on your conservatory.
Typical Price Ranges
Small lean-to conservatory (UPVC frame only): £350–£550. Standard 3m × 4m UPVC conservatory: £450–£750. Large Victorian-style orangery or UPVC extension: £700–£1,100. Aluminium conservatory (additional preparation): add £100–£200.
What Affects the Cost
Size — bay width, number of roof bars, door and vent count all affect masking time and paint quantity. Material — UPVC is the quickest; aluminium requires additional preparation; timber takes the most time. Condition — a heavily oxidised or chalking surface needs more preparation work before primer can go on.
Combining Services
Conservatory resprays pair naturally with our window frame painting service. For a full exterior project covering all surfaces, see our exterior painting page.

Conservatory painting is often combined with window frame painting or a full exterior repaint during the same visit. We can discuss combining these into one project when you call.
