Wood Painting Services

We cover interior hardwood, exterior timber, staining, varnishing, and full restoration across Lincoln properties.

Interior Hardwood

Grantham and Gainsborough properties often have original hardwood skirtings, architraves, handrails, and balustrades worth preserving. These respond well to a careful strip and recoat rather than being overloaded with more paint. We assess the timber before quoting. Some interior hardwood suits a clear oil or stain better than paint.

Exterior Timber

Exterior timber across Sale, Timperley, and Lincoln takes a harder beating than interior wood. Sun, frost, and rain work on it all year. We use breathable exterior oils and stains on garden timber and structural beams. These penetrate the surface rather than sitting on top, so they do not peel or bubble when the timber moves seasonally. For window frames and fascias, see our window frame painting page.

Staining and Varnishing

Staining brings out the natural grain while adding colour. Varnishing seals the surface with a durable, washable finish. The right product depends on the timber, its location, and the level of traffic or weather exposure it faces. We carry a wide range of stain colours and can match to existing joinery.

Stripping, Restoration, and Bespoke Joinery

Layers of old gloss on period joinery obscure the original moulding profile. Stripping back to bare wood produces a noticeably cleaner result.

Stripping and Restoration

Multiple coats obscure the original moulding profile and make doors, skirtings, and architraves look heavy and clogged. Stripping back to bare wood and starting again takes longer but the finish is better and lasts. We use chemical strippers and heat guns depending on the profile and timber type.

Bespoke Joinery

Fitted shelving, alcove bookcases, and built-in units are increasingly common in Victorian terraces. New joinery needs priming and painting before it reads as part of the room. We prime MDF cut edges carefully to prevent raised grain on the final coat. For fencing and decking, see our fence painting and deck painting pages.

For solid timber joinery, we advise on whether paint or a clear finish suits the piece better.

Wood Painting Costs in Lincoln

Prices are estimates only. Call 01522 457080 for a precise quote. Interior woodwork in a single room typically costs £200 to £450, covering skirting, architraves, and window board.

What Drives the Price

Scope of timber. A full Victorian terrace staircase restoration takes significantly longer than painting skirting boards in two rooms. Existing condition. Timber with multiple layers of old paint or degraded varnish needs more preparation before a topcoat can go on. Product choice. Oil-based satinwood, water-based eggshell, and specialist exterior stains each have different application times and coat requirements.

Typical Ranges

Single room interior woodwork (skirting, architraves, window board): £200 to £450. Staircase handrail and balustrade: £300 to £600. Full Victorian terrace interior woodwork (all rooms): £1,200 to £2,400. For broader exterior projects, see our exterior painting page. For masonry and render, see our masonry painting page.
